FAQ

  • What does "non-skilled care" mean?

Non-skilled in-home care services provide help with the daily living activities. This may include grooming, bathing, eating, managing medicines, housekeeping, and errands, such as taking someone to a doctor’s appointment.

  • Can I be paid to care for my mother, father, disabled friend, etc.?

Yes, you can! However, there are financial and needs requirements that must be met to be eligible. Ambassador’s experienced service coordinators will help you to apply and be approved for the government waiver program.

  • What is a waiver program?

Also called waiver-funded services, a waiver program is a government program for people who require long-term care but prefer to stay in their own home. The quality of care in a waiver program is the same as one would receive in a nursing home or hospital, but it allows a patient to live their life with as much independence and dignity as possible, in the comfort of a familiar setting. A waiver program includes allowances for home care (non-medical care), which are services that the Ambassador Home Care Agency can oversee or provide, as needed. Unfortunately, many people who are eligible for this program do not know that it exists. This results in a financial and emotional strain on patients and their families which could be greatly alleviated.

  • Who pays me?

As a caregiver, you are paid by our agency, so that you don’t have to navigate through complicated instructions and forms.

  • What family members are eligible for this program?

Eligible family members include sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, etc. The program does not offer compensation to spouses, but everyone else is eligible. This includes family friends.

  • How do I apply for this program?

To apply for the waiver program, which pays you to care for your loved one, you must first determine that you meet the eligibility requirements. You must then fill out the application and be approved by program administrators.

  • Can I just care for my loved one and be paid directly from the state?
Why should I go through Ambassador?

You can, but the approval process is extremely complicated and there are several benefits of working with Ambassador Home Care Agency.

    1. Free Home Assessment by our experienced social workers. They will determine exactly what your loved one’s circumstances are and what services they need.
    2. Expert guidance, and we handle everything. We understand the waiver program regulations and steps. We know how to make the approval process go more quickly and smoothly than if you were to attempt it yourself. We save you from having to read through long, sometimes confusing eligibility rules.
    3. Get all the assistance that you are eligible for. Since we know the programs so well, you and your loved one will benefit from our expertise.
    4. Receive care and payment faster. Our knowledge of the waiver program and our working relationship with the program administrators helps us to expedite the process. While it can take an individual six months to go through the approval process, for us it only takes two months.
    5. Easily adaptable to fit your needs. If your situation changes, we can adapt our program services to fit those changing needs, without having to deal with a government agency.
    6. Flexible options. If, at some time, the friend or family member is no longer available to provide care, one of our highly skilled caregivers can take over without any interruption in care services, providing a seamless transition for your loved one.
    7. Get your questions answered. Any questions you have in the future regarding the program and your care services can be quickly answered by our knowledgeable customer service professionals. You’ll avoid the “phone trees” and long wait times of  government agency departments.

With Ambassador, you can rest easy, knowing that everything will be done in a timely fashion, professionally, and that your loved one will be approved for this state program.

COVID-19: The New Norm

The Department of Health requires that all home care providers indicate exactly what precautions they take to protect clients from COVID-19. At Ambassador Home Care, we provide our caregivers with all necessary protective gear, including masks, gloves, and sanitizer. Every caregiver is supplied with these essential items by Ambassador before they enter the house. They are also questioned extensively about any recent travel and possible exposure to COVID-19 during the interview process, and on an ongoing basis as everyone must do when going into any medical office. We require that all our field caregivers get tested regularly.
